At Our Lady Help of Christians, we understand that the transition from primary to secondary education is a significant milestone in every student’s learning journey. We are deeply committed to ensuring that all Year 6 students feel confident, supported and well-prepared as they take this important step.

Transition planning begins well before the end of the school year. Our Leader of Diversity and school counsellor work closely with high schools' support staff to ensure a thorough and personalised handover for each student. These meetings allow us to share valuable insights about students’ strengths, needs and learning styles. Our goal is to assist high schools in providing a welcoming and supportive environment from day one.

Preparation is tailored to meet the needs of all students, with additional support provided for students with disabilities. We collaborate with a team of Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns professionals, including occupational therapists, speech language pathologists and psychologists, to ensure that every student receives the guidance and resources they need to thrive.

Parents and carers are key partners in this process. We maintain open and ongoing communication with families, recognising that their insights and involvement are essential to a successful transition. Together, we build a shared understanding of each student’s goals and challenges, and we work as a team to support their growth.

By the time our Year 6 students walk out of our school gates for the last time, they do so with confidence and readiness. They carry with them not only academic skills but also the resilience, independence and self-awareness needed to embrace the next chapter of their education.

We are proud of the care and dedication that goes into this transition process, and we remain committed to helping every student move forward with a strong foundation and a bright future.
