Religious Education at Our Lady Help of Christians School

Religious Education at Our Lady Help of Christians is guided by the vision of the Archdiocese of Brisbane and the Diocese of Cairns. We aim to form students who live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and are religiously literate in the Catholic and broader Christian tradition, enabling them to engage critically and authentically with faith and contemporary culture.

Our Religious Education has two complementary dimensions:

  • The Religion Curriculum – Classroom teaching and learning focused on developing students’ understanding of the Catholic Christian tradition through the strands of Sacred Texts, Beliefs, Church, and Christian Life.

  • The Religious Life of the School – Celebrating and living our Catholic faith through prayer, liturgy, the sacraments, and social justice. Students learn traditional and informal prayers, participate in Christian Meditation, and join in whole-school and year-level liturgies throughout the year. Families are warmly invited to these celebrations.

In partnership with Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, students in Years 4–6 can prepare for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation through the parish-based program, with parents taking an active role in their child’s faith journey.

As a faith community, we live out the Church’s call to justice by supporting initiatives such as Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, Catholic Missions, and the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
