Sport plays a significant part of both the physical and social development of all students. At Our Lady Help of Christians School, there are many opportunities for the students to develop the fundamental skills that help with a wide variety of sports and games. Students through years Prep-6 are involved in weekly Physical Education lessons. These lessons usually focus on fundamental movement skills as listed by the Australian Curriculum.
Prep – Year 2 Sport
Prep to Year 2 take part in sports lessons throughout the week. These lessons focus on teamwork and cooperation as well as draw on skills learnt in PE Lessons. P-2 participate in an Athletics Carnival, Cross Country Carnival and Under 8s Day. Students also participate in gross motor skills and development through our Perceptual Motor Program. Students also participate in specialist lessons throughout the year.
Year 3 – 6 Sport
Years 3-6 participate in a range of different sports throughout the year. These lessons focus on building teamwork and cooperation skills as well as playing games involving strategies and other specific skills. Students aged 9-12 years participate in Cross Country and Athletics carnivals throughout the year. Students also participate in specialist lessons from sporting associations throughout the year.
The school also has a proud tradition of participation in sporting events, including athletics, track and field, netball and rugby league. The school supports many of our students who represent sports of their choice at Peninsula trials and beyond.
